He moved to Missouri at a young age with his family where he was raised and educated. Pete entered the U.S. Army and served our country in the European Theatre during WWII.
After the war, he married Eva Gates on March 14, 1948, in Reno, Nevada. They lived in California, where he managed a Safeway Grocery Store. In 1974, the family moved to Oregon.
Eva passed away in 1996.
Pete married Dora Maydew on June 14, 1997, in Roseburg. Pete was a Christian and was a member of the Cornerstone Family Fellowship in Roseburg. He was an avid fisherman and painted houses in retirement. Tinkering also kept him busy. He was a member of the Roseburg VFW Post.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Baker of Roseburg; children, James 'Jim' Baker; Fred Gates; Gerrie Gates; Charlene Goodemote and her husband, Tom; two sisters, Grace Helton of Springfield, Missouri; Sally Boyle of Victorville, California; grandchildren, Kenny Horton; Jackie Griffiths; Lynnette Davis; Jim Horton; Kathleen Mickey; Vicki Coya; Richard Gates; Jennifer Baker; Dustin Baker; Cody Yost; eighteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews and their families, who all loved him.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva; brother, Vollie Baker; and sister, Lilly Mae Wilson.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at the Cornerstone Family Fellowship in Roseburg.
