OBITUARY: Press Enterprise, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Saturday, January 11, 2003

William N. Davis Sr., 87, of 80 Davis Hill Road, Berwick R.R.3, died late Thursday evening at the Bonham Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Register, Luzerne County, where he had been in failing health for the past six months.
Born in Register, Luzerne County, Feb. 5, 1915, he was a son of the late Robert O. and Gertrude Curtis Davis.
Mr. Davis farmed all of his life and also worked for the former American Car and Foundry Industries and Garrison's Mill in Berwick. He had also owned and operated the former Briar Creek Mill. In 1980, he retired from the former Berwick Forge and Fabricating.
A holder of a pilot's license he was a member of the former Berwick Flying Club.
Mr. Davis enjoyed planes and tractors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Harriet A. Bower, in September of 1984. Two brothers, Raymond and Melvin Davis, and two sisters, Edith Davis and Cedella Whitmire, also died previously.
Surviving are five sons: William N. Davis Jr., Nescopeck R.R.2; James D., Robert W., Ronald L. and Jon C. Davis, all of Berwick R.R.3; four daughters: Mrs. William (Dorothy) Reist, Emerald Isle, N.C.; Nancy O'Dell, Mrs. Joseph (Marilyn) McAfee and Mrs. Steven (Carolyn) Shelhamer, all of Berwick R.R.3; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Davis, Berwick; and two sisters: Betty Andress, Nescopeck and Alverna Fenstemaker, Berwick R.R.4.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick. The Rev. Dan Belles, associate pastor of Emmanuel Bible Chapel, Berwick, will officiate. Burial will be in Summer Hill Cemetery.
