Nathaniel was the son of Chillingsworth Foster and his wife Susannah Gray. Susannah was the widow of Mr. Sears as well as Chillingsworth's second wife. She was the daughter of John Gray. Nathaniel married Phebe Wing in June of 1746. He remarried after Phebe's death. Nathaniel worked as a blacksmith. He was on a committee with 2 other men to procure 800 lances for Duchess County, New York during the American Revolution.
