Funeral services for Wallace Gosdin, 90, of Little-field, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 5, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Littlefield with Justin DeLoach, officiating and Reverend Joe Stewart, Pastor, assisting. Burial with Masonic Graveside Rights will be in Littlefield Memorial Park under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home.
Mr. Gosdin went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2006 at Lamb Healthcare Center in Littlefield. He was born on December 19, 1915 to L.C. and Opal (Bandy) Gosdin in Chauk Mountain, Texas. At an early age they moved to Snyder, Okla. They then moved to Olton to farm in 1927. Wallace graduated from Olton High School and Lipperts Business College in Plainview. He married Viola Cook on March 18, 1937 in Olton. They farmed near Olton until 1941. They moved to a farm near Sudan and framed until retirement in 1969.
Wallace was on the Building Committee at the First Baptist Church in Sudan in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He also served on many boards including Sudan Farmers Co-op Gin Board, Soil Conservation Board and FHA Board. He was Farmer of the year in 1957. He was a 50 year Mason, and belonged to the Sudan Masonic Lodge #1241 where he was a past Master. He was also a Shriner. Wallace was a member of the First Baptist Church of Littlefield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dominos. He was preceded by his parents and two sisters.
He is survived by wife, Viola Gosdin of Littlefield; daughter, Pat and husband Robert DeLoach of Sudan; three grandchildren, Mike and wife Kelly DeLoach of Littlefield, Shawni DeLoach of Baltimore, Md., and Robert E "Chip" and wife Amy DeLoach of Nacogdoches; four great grandchildren, Kristin DeLoach of Littlefield, Justin DeLoach of San Angelo, Evan DeLoach of Nacogdoches, and T.J. DeLoach of Nacogdoches.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hines, Bobby Brunson, Danny West, Brian Muller, Neil Duffy, Freddie Maxwell, Randy Bales and Charles Carpenter.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Sudan and Littlefield Masonic Lodges and the Amherst Co-op Gin Domino Players.
The family suggests memorials to be sent to the Littlefield EMS.
