ALBANY--Services for Essie M. Oxley Henthorne Howard, 89, of Pine Hills Continuing Care Center in Nelsonville, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home in Albany, with H. Willard Love officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Howard died Saturday evening, Nov. 30, 1996, at the Pine Hills center.
Born Aug. 18, 1907, in Lincoln County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Valerie Griffith Oxley.
Mrs. Howard was a homemaker and a former member of Albany Grange 1611.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Lorene Henthorne of Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bunny and Bob Malm of Denver, Colo., and Linda and Mont Bennett of Athens; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Oma Croch Stoecher of Florida; three stepbrothers, George, Henry and Bradford King; and three stepsisters, Reba Turley, Myrtle Mooney, and Mary May.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Oliver Henthorne; second husband, Walter L. Howard; two sons, Jerry and Benny Henthorne; a granddaughter, Stacey Bennett; five brothers, Roy, Don, Boyd, Harold, and Clyde Oxley; four stepbrothers, Homer, Logan, Carl, and Orville King; and her stepfather, Richard King.
