Published in The Paducah Sun, Paducah, McCracken Co., Ky., 12 Apr 2014 - Clara Atherton Coker, 86, of Paducah, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.

Mrs. Coker was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Martin-Marietta as an Environmental Tech. She also owned and operated her own beauty salon, and worked for The international Shoe Co. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Paducah Women's Bowling Association. She was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles where She held the office of Past State President of the ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters; three sons; two stepdaughters; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Howard Atherton; her second husband, Harmon, L. (H.L.) Coker Jr.; four sisters, Velma Miller, Laverne Long, Violet Smith and Annie Mae Thompson; and six brothers, Ray Shaffer, Cecil Shaffer, Earl Shaffer, Duward Shaffer, Boyd Shaffer Jr. and Kenneth Eugene Shaffer. Her parents were Arthur Boyd and Annie (Goad) Shaffer.

Funeral services for Clara Atherton Coker will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Topper Council officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
