"Death in the Mollie Gibson" (excerpt)
Another terrible mine accident occurred at the Mollie Gibson [silver mine] at 11:40 last night, by which M. W. (Mart) Brennan and his brother, Hugh, were instantly killed…The Brennan boys, especially Mart, are widely known in this camp. The latter has been here since the early days and has been one of the busiest prospectors of the district. He and his brother Con [Cornelius Brennan] owned many interests on Richmond hill and vicinity, where they have put in part of their time ever since 1881. Neither of the victims was married. The Brennan Funeral.
The funeral of M. W. and Hugh Brennan, the brothers who lost their lives in the Mollie Gibson Wednesday [Feb 19. 1890] night, occurred Sunday [Feb 23, 1890] afternoon. There was a very large attendance, the Knights of Pythias being out in full force. The procession to the grave was headed by the band. This was followed by the Knights and a long concourse of carriages brought up the rear. The large turn-out was an evidence of the esteem in which the deceased were held among those who knew them.
