In 1947 he married Ruth Reid from Moab, Utah. They spent a couple years in Paradox, then moved to Spanish Fork then Mapleton Utah.
In 1952 Carl drew a 96-acres parcel of land in the Columbia Basin in SE Washington. In 1953 the family packed up and moved west. They were one of the first settlers in Othello, on Block 49, now known as Bench Road.
He was the step-father of Ruth's 2 children from a previous marriage, Robert and Eileen. And together they had 7 more children, Carl J., David, Marla, Sara, Margie, Christy and Lori.
They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Ruth preceded him in death on May 30, 2000.
