Betty was predeceased by her first husband, John Hugh Smith; parents, Bill and Fannie Mullins; sister, Florence Mullins Leonard McConnell; and nephew, Jim Harris. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Schulke; sister, Harriet Mullins Harris; and brother-in-law, Paul Harris; children, Brian and Aimee Schulke and Ellen and Douglas Lyman; nieces and nephews, Arnold and Susan Leonard Little, Bill and Yukiko Leonard, Molly Leonard and Bob Harris; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Betty was a kind, fun-loving person who will be remembered for her sparkling sense of humor.
She loved people, the Blue Ridge Mountains where she grew up, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading the Wall Street Journal cover to cover and the Washington Redskins.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 21 at 1pm followed by a service at 2pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to the Salvation Army, 151 Kristiansand Dr. No. 106, Williamsburg VA 23188 or the American Heart Association, 603 Morris Drive, P.O. Box 5009, Newport News, VA 23605.
