He was a son of the late Clifford and Estella (Cornelius) Barnes.
Mr. Barnes was a member of St. David's UCC, Hanover. A 1948 graduate of East Berlin High School, he later obtained the rank of U.S. Navy 3rd Class Petty Officer and was a Korean War Veteran. He was employed at ACCO Chain and Lifting, York, for 34 years where he took great pride in his work as an electrical wireman of hoists for cranes. He also enjoyed being a member of the Hanover Republican Club. Mr. Barnes was an airplane enthusiast stemming from his days serving on the USS Leyte, and he loved to fish.
He joined in Heaven his wife of 54 years Helen R. (Keefer) Barnes, who departed this life November 15, 2004, and surviving is his daughter, Debra Ann Bowers, of McSherrystown; and three grandchildren, Kairisa Mei, Emmah Lannae, and Mikenna Tessa-Fai, who were the apples of his eye.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death two brothers, Clifford C. "Junior" Barnes and Walter Barnes.
Interment was with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
