THE LEBANON ENTERPRISE, page 1, Friday, December 18, 1903. Robt W. Abell Dead.

Mr. Robert W. Abell, one of the best known citizens of this county, died at his home on Walnut Street in this city last Saturday morning, December 12, 1903, after a brief illness. His death was due to complication of troubles leading among which was an affection of the kidneys. His interment took place at St. Augustine's Cemetery after a Requiem High Mass Tuesday morning.

Deceased was the youngest son of Bernard and Clarisey Abell who died man years ago. He was born in the house where Jack Thomas now lives, in the Calvary parish, Jan. 10, 1828, making him nearly 76 years old. He spent nearly all his life in this county, with the exception of two years when he lived in Bardstown where he learned his trade as a black smith. He moved to Lebanon in 1865 and worked at his trade constantly until a few years ago when the infirmities of age warned him of the perils overwork would bring to his health.

He was married to Susan E. Spalding, the oldest daughter of Jack Spalding, Jan. 21, 1852. Of this union eight children were born of whom five survive. The surviving children are J. B. and W. A. Abell, and Miss Mary and Maggie Abell of this city, and Mrs. Nannie Belle Mowry of Princeton, Indiana, His beloved wife died in 1890.

Robert W. Abell was a man of strong conviction and held unalterably to them. His word was as good as his bond and justice dictated his course in the affairs of daily life. To his friends he was true as steel and always held out the hand of forgiveness to those who honestly opposed him. In his death Marion County and Lebanon lose one of their best citizens and his family a most kind father. To the bereaved children the ENTERPRISE along list of fiends in extending sympathy.
