Ervin and Doris are interred together, they share the headstone.∼Ervin B. Aukes, 72, of Menifee, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) at a Conway nursing home.
Born Aug. 17, 1930, at Buffalo Center, Iowa, a son of the late Reinard and Anna Onken Aukes, he was retired from the Air Force, where he was a flight engineer. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Iowa.
Survivors are his wife, Doris Aukes of Menifee; daughters, Karen Diane McGuire of Grapevine, Texas, and Jamie Kim Stenger of Urbandale, Iowa; five brothers, Don Aukes of Conway, Ray Aukes of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Robert Aukes of Mount Ida, Rollin Aukes of Kiester, Minn., and Loren Aukes of Forest City, Iowa; three sisters, Mary Khowassah of Iowa City, Iowa, and Ruby Hofbauer and Millie Dontje, both of Forest City, Iowa; and three grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Air Force Sergeants Fund.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Garden Room at Griffin Leggett Custom Funerals and Cremations in Conway.
