L. D. Southers of Gainesville passed away peacefully at his home on January 15, 2015.

Mr. Southers was born June 18, 1927 to the late Jasper Gilliam and Stella Ruth Watkins Southers. He was retired from Wayne Farms and was a member of Air Line Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Lillian Stover Southers and his second wife of 24 years, Brenda Colbert Southers; all his brothers: Aaron, Isaiah, Oliver, Paul, Watson, Arvil, and John; all his sisters: Ulma Dyer, Willie Turpin, Mary Hart and Frankie Cowart.

Survivors include his daughter, Wilda Southers of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Ronnie Pirkle of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Carolyn Southers of Oakwood; Grandsons, Jim Pirkle and Jennifer of Dahlonega; Chris Pirkle of Gainesville; Granddaughters, Lori Castle and Tim of Flowery Branch; Patti Roberts of Gainesville; Great Grandchildren, Lauren Adams, Alex Pirkle, Matthew Pirkle, Caroline Castle, Brady Roberts, Madeline Castle, Tyler Castle and Conner Castle; special friend Geneva Pittman; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Little Davenport Chapel. The Rev. Bradley Elliott and Rev. Darryl Womack will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm, Saturday January 17, 2015 at Little Davenport Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Robert Klassen, the staff at Homestead Hospice and L. D.'s very special nurse, Annie Brown.
