SUGAR CITY - Jennie Searle Ottesen, 88, a longtime Upper Valley resident, died April 17, 1996 in the Rexburg Nursing Center.
She was born August 7, 1907 in Heber City, Utah to Albert B. and Selina Heaton Searle, the youngest of six children. When she was 2, her family moved to Sugar City and settled in the Moody Creek area. She attended the Moody Creek School where she graduated from the eighth grade in 1922. She attended high school in Teton for one year and at Sugar-Salem High School for two years.
On February 4, 1926, she married Ervin Ottesen in St. Anthony. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple August 15, 1929. In 1929 they moved to Utah and her husband farmed there. They moved back to Moody Creek in 1936. Her husband died September 29, 1976. She continued to live on the farm until June 1989 when she moved to the Rexburg Nursing Center.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, and traveling.
Survivors include her children, Max (wife, Arile) Ottesen and Doyle Ottesen, both of the Sugar City Moody Creek rural route, LaRae Johnson of Spanish Fork, Utah, Mrs. Larry (Marla) Russell of Teton City, and Mrs. Donald (Sandra) Stevens of Portland, Oregon; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three daughters, a sister, four brothers, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Teton LDS Church. Burial will be in Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
