Sarah was the oldest child of Robert Houston Woolverton and Louisa Elizabeth (Eliza) Hughes. She married William Aulsie Carroll at approximately the age of sixteen and they lived in McNairy & Hardin County TN until his death in 1883. Following his death she moved her ten children to Montague County TX where her brother, Dr. A. J. Wolverton, was already established. At the beginning of the twentieth century she and her family crossed the Red River to begin their life in Indian Territory. She died at the home of her son, James Abbey Carroll, near Ardmore, Oklahoma.
