Wayne E. Kircher, 97, formerly of Olivia, Spicer, and Willmar, MN, and Rio Verde, and Sun City AZ, died peacefully, Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Saturday, January 17th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Olivia City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Minnesota-North Dakota, 7900 West 78th Street, Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55439 or the charity of your choice.
Wayne was born the second of 4 boys to Faye (Kingsbury) and George Kircher of Olivia, MN on May 13, 1917. Thereafter he always claimed 13 as his lucky number. Wayne attended Olivia Public schools graduating in 1935. After an active high school sporting career, he attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1939 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. After a stint working for Pan Am in the new industry of airline travel he moved back to his hometown to work with his father and brother in the banking business. He married Phyllis (Prelvitz) in 1949 and had two boys, James and Phillip, and a step-son, Robert Barrett. He continued in the banking business obtaining a Master’s Degree in Banking from Rutgers University and eventually becoming the President of the State Bank of Danube. Wayne was very active in both Olivia and Danube Civic communities until he retired and moved to permanent residences in Spicer, MN and Rio Verde, AZ. A particular passion was golfing in both Minnesota and Arizona as an active member of the Olivia, Little Crow and Rio Verde golf clubs.
After his first wife’s passing he married Rachel Engelmann of Willmar and found happiness with her until her passing. He was preceded in death by his wives Phyllis and Rachel, his brothers, Jerry, John, and Richard and his step-son, Robert Barrett.
Wayne is survived by his two sons, James (and Sara) Kircher, and daughters Valerie Baehr and Julie Kircher; and Phillip (and Dawn) Kircher and son, Jason Kircher and six step grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
