Allen Andrew Anderson, 81, died on January 7, 2015 in Cedar Rapids, IA at St. Luke’s Hospice after an extended illness. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 7 at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids.

Allen was born in Story County, Iowa on November 14, 1933 to Amos and Stella (Sampson) Anderson. He graduated from Fernald High School in 1952 and then married Gloria Swanson in 1953. Allen served his country nearly two years in the United States Army. He then farmed and worked in Nevada, Iowa until moving to Central City, Nebraska in 1971 where he owned and operated Big Al’s Construction Company. Later Allen worked in many states as a construction field superintendent for the Weitz Company. He served on various boards. Allen loved sharing his basso profundo voice singing in over 100 weddings and funerals. Allen was a loyal Nebraska Cornhusker fan and enjoyed watching Linn-Mar High School athletic events.

Surviving family members include Allen’s wife of 61 years, Gloria and daughter, Shevawn Huntley (Richard). His son, Todd (Ronda) passed away on April 9, 2012. Grandchildren are Erin (Mrs. Phillip) Jones; Clark and Samuel Anderson; and Scott and Kristen Huntley. Great grandchildren: Grayson, Emma and Madelyn Jones.

Surviving siblings are: Ruth (Jack) Perkins, Iowa City, IA; Mary Mueller (Ted), Red Wing, MN; and many nieces and nephews who were near and dear to him. Preceding him in death was his son, Todd, of Cedar Rapids; and siblings: Marley (Lola) Anderson, Nevada, IA; and Josephine and Swede Heintz, Nevada, IA.
