Raymon Abitia, "Smokey," 80, of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 8, 2015. He was born Feb. 28, 1934 in Gary, N.M. He moved to Las Vegas with his family in 1974. He worked as a cement mason, Local 797, from 1975-2010. Smokey is survived by wife, of 53 years, Juanita Abitia; sons, Steven Abitia, Ray (Thelma) and Adrian (Connie) of Las Vegas; sister, Becky; brothers, Alex and Gilbert Abitia of Redlands, Calif.; grandchildren, Ronnie, Christina, Rayray, Adriana, Rayven, Arris, Desiray and Andrej and Adrian Avelar. Smokey's family was the most important to him. He was a proud father and grandfather, and he cherished times spent with them. His passion in life was teaching young apprentices his trade in Local 797 as a cement mason. Smokey was a genuine, unconditional loving, honest and humble man. He was loved by all, will be missed by many, and forgotten by none. Viewing will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Jan. 17, with services following, both at Palm Mortuary-Downtown, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89123.
