Jean Louise (Wahlert) Stoltz, 67, of Dubuque, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, 1240 Rush St., with Monsignor Francis Friedl and Monsignor Wayne Ressler officiating. Jean's nephews will be the pallbearers. Her honorary pallbearers will be the "Tweets." Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on April 3, 1941, in Dubuque, daughter of Robert C. and Celeste (Canepa) Wahlert. She married Charles Edward Stoltz on Aug. 20, 1964.

Jean graduated from Visitation Academy and then Clarke College, where she received a degree in psychology in 1963. During her senior year at Clarke, she was able to spend a semester in Europe. She loved to travel, and over the course of her life toured dozens of cities in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America and Australia with her husband and family. In addition to living in Dubuque, Jean and Charles resided in Omaha, Neb., the Galena Territory and East Dubuque, Ill. For the past 20 years, they spent their winters in Arizona. Wherever Jean was, she quickly made friends and those relationships remained life-long.

Jean was a devout Catholic and regularly attended Mass; her faith was unwavering throughout her life. While in Dubuque, she was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Parish and St. Raphael's Cathedral. In Omaha, she and her family attended services at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, and in Scottsdale, she belonged to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Jean's top priority always was her family, and she was happiest spending time with her children, grandchildren and husband of 44 years. With Chuck, she shared a lifetime of love, fun and travels throughout the world. As a wife and mother, she was unfailingly devoted, supportive, patient and kind. She was known for her ever-present smile and warm hugs. Music was a big part of her life. She liked to listen to music all day long and regularly attended the opera and symphony, especially while living in Omaha and Scottsdale.

Jean was very active in her community and was a member of the Catholic Mothers' Club, Sunshine Circle of Finley Hospital, the Seniors Board of the Visiting Nurses Association and the School Board at St. Columbkille's School. She also volunteered at all of her children's schools wherever she was needed, but she was particularly fond of working in the school library.

Jean and Charles have been generous contributors to many organizations and charities. Supporting the local colleges has been of particular importance to them because they so valued education and wanted to encourage people to better themselves.

Surviving are her husband, Charles; four children, Jennifer, of Milwaukee, Michael (Ravit), of Northbrook, Ill., John (Aimee), of Chicago, and Charles II (Rachel), of East Dubuque; four grandchildren, Ariel, Barak and Ilan, sons of Michael and Ravit, and Simon, son of John and Aimee; three brothers, Robert H. (Donna) Wahlert, of Dubuque, David W. (Nancy) Wahlert, of Peosta, Iowa, and James R. (Susan) Wahlert, of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, R.C.; and her mother, Celeste.
