WHITNEY AMSDEN
Colesburg, la.—Special: The funeral of Whitney Amsden, 80, was held from his home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. A. H. Meyer, pastor of Zion M. E. Church, officiating. Hymns were sung by the choir with Mrs. Ethel Smock as accompanist.
He died Thursday following a three months’ illness with paralysis.
He was born at Osage on May 10. 1857 and he came to this vicinity with his parents when a small boy.
On March 20. 1883, he was married to Louise Brase of Guttenberg and the home had since been made on a farm near here.
Surviving besides his widow are: two daughters, Mrs. Mary Wenkstern of Edgewood and Mrs. Ervin Schaal of Delhi; five sons, Peter of Elkport, Fred of Garber, W.L. of Zwingle, Ben of Greeley, and Edward at home; 24 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Note: In early census records he was enumerated as Daniel Whitney Amsden. He was enumerated in the 1856 Iowa census age age 0, suggesting that 1856 was his true birth year.
