Loretta is listed as widowed/divorced in the 1900 United States census. Presumably, Denton died between 1894 (when he fathered his last child) and 1900. Family history indicates he died in Whitewright, Texas, but his grave has not been located. The family was traveling from Tennessee to Texas when Denton and his mother died near Whitewright (his mother is buried in the Sears Chapel/Doss/Lindsey Springs Cemetery). Edmon Foster Jones (Denton's brother-in-law) had apparently already relocated to Walker County, Texas, and some of the family were now following. Edmon traveled to Whitewright after the deaths of Denton and Esther to help Denton's wife Loretta and the children complete the trip.

1860: Jackson County, Tennessee, page 300 B
1880: Clay County, Tennessee, page 253 B
