Loren Emerson Campbell, 92, of Shenandoah, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Journeys Crossing in Elkton.

Mr. Campbell was born December 18, 1922 in Davis, West Virginia and was the son of the late William L. and Gertrude Emerson Campbell. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Morgan and Alverta Campbell and David and Tamson Puffenburger Emerson; brother, Ivan L. Campbell, sister, Mildred Campbell Secrist.

He was a WWII Army Veteran and was sent to North Africa then later Trinidad, where he spent the remainder of his tour. The Campbell’s returned to Trinidad fifty years later and received a warm welcome from the natives. Loren began working at Hammond’s Grocery and J.W. Bateman Garage in Shenandoah, where he became well known for his personality and hard work. He retired from Sperry Marine (Northrup Gruman), Charlottesville, in the mid 1980’s, after more than 25 years.

In June of 1946 he married his wife of 68 years, Paulina “Polly” Yager, who survives. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Dennis Yager; sister-in-law, Joyce Elkins; nephew, Eddie Secrist; nieces, Pat Baugher and Margaret Buracker; his special niece, Tammy Yager Ritenour and a number of great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Following the visitation, the funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. Interment will follow at Coverstone Cemetery.
