Son of Joel and Gilly (Moody) Moody of Chatham and Guilford counties, North Carolina and Woodson County, Kansas. He married Martha Priscilla Acrey of Nacogdoches County, Texas Nov. 28, 1857 at Linn Flat, Texas. He enlisted in Co. H, 17th reg., Texas Cavalry, CSA on March 10, 1862. The unit was in service in Arkansas in June 1862, and a company muster roll lists beside his name: "Died June 21st/62." Burial location unknown likely in a temporary encampment burial location.
