Erna was born May 5, 1919 near Tripp, SD, a daughter of Frederich and Sarah (Drefs) Ehersmann. She entered into eternal life at the age of 88 years, four months and three days.
She graduated from rural Tripp School and on March 26, 1938 she married Bertil S. Gunnare at Tripp, SD. The couple farmed in the Alcester and Hawarden area until their retirement in 1981.
Erna was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Alcester, the Ladies Aid, the Senior Citizens Center and the Extension Club. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, sewing, and playing cards with friends and family.
Survivors include her four sons; Wesley and his wife, Elayne of Plymouth, MN, Clifford and his wife, Gloria of Sun City West, AZ, Ronald and his wife, Kathryn of Davenport, IA and James of Woodstock, VT; four grandsons, three granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Ella Bartunek. Her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
