Ref: Wellington Daily News, Wed., 10 Feb. 1926, pg. 7, clm. 5 -- Died Tuesday Night -- Well Known Wellington Woman And Pioneer Sumner Resident Succumbs To Illness Of Two Week’s Duration -- Mrs. Samuel J. Waugh, aged 61 years, a well known Wellington woman and for 50 years a resident of Sumner County, died about eight o’clock Tuesday night at her home, 322 East Harvey Avenue. Mrs. Waugh had been ill with influenza since January 30, but on Monday of this week her condition became worse and she grew gradually weaker until the end came.

Blanche Emma Barnard was born in Canada, April 5, 1864, the daughter of John Barnard and Eleanor Wright. The family later moved from Canada to Illinois and about 50 years ago came to Kansas, settling at Mulvane. She was married to Samuel J. Waugh of Derby on February 8, 1885, at Mulvane. Mr. and Mrs. Waugh resided on a farm near Derby for several years, later moved to Wellington, where they have resided ever since except for five years in Alva, OK, where Mr. Waugh was in charge of an Amsden lumber yard. Returning to Wellington Mr. Waugh was in charge of a similar business for several years.

Mrs. Waugh was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are the husband, Samuel J. Waugh; three daughters; Miss Nellie B. Waugh of this city, Mrs. Claudene Sullivan of ElDorado, Miss Mildred Waugh of Chicago; two sons: Neal of Tucson, AZ and Joe of Edmond, OK. All were present when Mrs. Waugh died except Neal, who was expected to arrive some time today. Four grandchildren also survive and there are five sisters: Mrs. Emily Cole of Glendale, CA; Mrs. Kate Pennick of Washington State; Mrs. Maude Dadisman of Greenfield, OK; Mrs. Nellie Flint of CA; and Mrs. Amelia Dean of Wichita. Mrs. Dadisman is here and Mrs. Dean will be here today while the others sisters remain to be heard from.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the residence, 322 East Harvey Avenue, Rev. Adlai G. Wallace, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial will be made in Prairie Lawn cemetery.
