Melba J. Phillips, age 90 of Fredericktown, died Saturday January 3, 2015, at her residence. Melba was born February 12, 1924 in Mount Gilead to Melvin Grover Bachelder and Cynthia Elizabeth (Virtue) Bachelder. Melba graduated from Mount Gilead High School and had spent her lifetime in Morrow and Knox Counties. On October 31, 1942 she married Donald W. Phillips in Delhart, Texas and celebrated 56 years of marriage before Donald’s death in 1998.

Melba was a member of the Victory Church of Christ in Mount Vernon, was a 75 year member of Wayne Grange, a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau and a member of the Dorema Women’s Auxiliary. Surviving are her; 4 sons Dean (Paula) Phillips of Bryan, Ohio, Dale (Roxan) Phillips of Lucas, Dennis (Cindy) Phillips of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Darrell (Karen) Phillips of Overland Park, Kansas; her daughter Donna Phillips of the home; grandchildren Dalena Phillips, Danae Phillips, Darisa Phillips, Anthony Phillips, Colt Phillips, Alisha (Russ) Mendelson, Jeff (Kiirsten) Phillips, JeanAnn Spore; great grandchildren Jayden Spore, Damian Bell, Cooper and Reid Mendelson, Zane Phillips; and sisters Helen Black and Margaret Vaughn. Besides her parents Melba was preceded in death by her husband Donald W. Phillips, daughter Diana J. (Phillips) Puetzs, son-in-law Walter Puetzs, and granddaughter Cathy Puetzs, brother Ralph Bachelder, and sisters Ruth Ellen Dudley and Phyllis Ore.

Friends may call Thursday from 5PM to 7PM and Friday from 10AM to 11AM at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 East College Street, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019 where funeral services will be Friday at 11AM with Ray Linn and Donald Linn officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
