Mrs. Blanche Mae Smith, 49, wife of Oliver C. Smith and daughter of Orry U. and Mrs. Clara L. Murphy Bailey, died at a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 5 p.m. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Miss Clara L. Harrison and Mrs. Every V. Thigpen, both of South Norfolk; two sons, James A. Waterfield, of Pawtucket, R.I., and Wallace S. Harrison, of Taiverner, Fla.; a granddaughter, Miss Scheral L. Waterfield, of Pawtucket; three sisters, Mrs. Francis B. Mahoney and Mrs. Lucy B. Shackelford, both of Norfolk, and Mrs. Minnie B. Sykes, of Portsmouth; and three brothers, Harry S. Bailey, William E. Bailey and Ralph S. Bailey, all of Chester, Pa.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Princess Anne County and had been a resident of Norfolk for 40 years. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
The body was taken to the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.
