Janice Charline (Ontis) Kidd, 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at her home in Jacksonville following a long battle with cancer.
She was born June 17, 1946, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Marion and Charline (Cormeny) Ontis. She married Robert M. Kidd on May 6, 1965, in Springfield and he survives.
She is also survived by her mother, Charline Ontis of Springfield; her father and stepmother, Marion and Charlene Ontis of Springfield; a son, Richard A. Kidd (wife, Rebecca) of Williamsville; a daughter, Rashel L. Bayless (husband, Mark) of Sherman; two granddaughters, Stephanie R. Sanderbeck (husband, Matthew) of Springfield and Elizabeth C. Bayless of Sherman; a great-granddaughter, Sydnie Sanderbeck of Springfield; two sisters, Alice A. Brandon (husband, Robert) and Sandra K. Kahne (husband, Dick), all of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was a 1964 graduate of Lanphier High School. She was employed by Springfield School District #186 for many years as a school secretary for the Jane Addams Elementary School and the Owen Marsh Elementary School. After retiring, she worked part-time for Sue Fox at the Times Square Sewing Complex in Jacksonville. An accomplished seamstress, Janice enjoyed sewing and creating quilts. She kept a strong Christian faith.
At her request, cremation has been accorded. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Southern View Chapel in Springfield. The family will meet friends at the church from 5 p.m. on Monday until the time of services. Private family committal services will be held later at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Springfield.
