Orson Lowell Anderson passed away on January 3, 2015, in Seattle, Washington. He was bornon October 20, 1940, to Utahna Bagley and Milo Grant Anderson of Koosharem, Utah, in the Salina Hospital.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurie Baker, his sister Susan Winkel, and his brothers, Ramon Anderson, Terry Anderson, Max Anderson, Kirby Anderson, Rodney
Anderson, and Kim Anderson.

After graduating from Richfield High School in 1958, Lowell earned a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Mathematics from Utah State University before moving to Seattle. He continued his studies at the University of Washington while working for Boeing where he distinguished himself as an early computer programmer. Matrix analysis codes he wrote were used for many years and included some of his wit as well as his mathematical skill. He named one program “The Snark” and included passages from Lewis Carroll’s, The Hunting of the Snark, inthe comments and error messages.

Outside of work Lowell pursued many hobbies. He was an accomplished mountaineer and climbed big rocks in Yosemite, all the tall peaks in Washington—some several times, and
Mount Blanc in Switzerland. He taught climbing and mountaineering first aid. He played the guitar, loved to garden and could fix anything. He built computers and often fixed computers for friends. He loved children and could mesmerize them with his stories and gentle way. He loved to tell stories of growing up in Koosharem and enjoyed spending time there and at Fish Lake with family after retiring from Boeing in 1995.

Lowell’s life was celebrated on January 9, 2015 In Seattle Washington. He will be buried in the Koosharem Cemetery
next to his mother who passed away when Lowell was 5 years old.
