At this time he was a 20 years old, single, a farmer, 5'-7" height, dark hair, blue eyes, dark complexion and his nativity was Crawford County, Illinois. He mustered in on April 10, 1862 at Camp Dubois, near Anna & Jonesboro, Union County, Illinois. The unit moved to Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois on April 22. 1862, but William did not make the moved because of his illness. William died on May 6, 1862 at Anna, Union County, Illinois due to his disease. His burial location has not been identified.
