Helen Estelle Hessler was born September 11, 1915, in Cicero, Illinois, the daughter of Otto and Estelle (Horn) Hessler. She grew up in Western Springs, Illinois. She married Kenneth Jeanneret Reeve on November 30, 1935, in Western Springs. In 1949, they moved to Brown County, Indiana, where they lived until 2005. Kenneth was an artist and a member of the Brown County Art Gallery, which was one focus of her many volunteer activities. She was a family history genealogical researcher and compiler. She worked with Kenneth on a number of books of genealogical data, which were published by the Brown County Historical Society where they were both active members.

Helen was an avid reader of history and science, a rock and shell collector and enjoyed gardening and nature. She took delight in encouraging the curiosity of young people. She served as a substitute teacher, 4-H leader and PTO president. She and Kenneth traveled to wildlife refuges, the mountains and to the sea coasts in the United States, Canada and to the island of St. Thomas in the Caribbean. She was devoted to her husband. She was a patient and loving mother, who approached life with energy, ingenuity and optimism. Kenneth preceded her in death on January 11, 2012. She then moved to Virginia, to be close to her family.

Surviving are one daughter, Susan (George) Cash of Chesterfield, VA; one son, Daniel (Martha) Reeve of Swanville, ME; three grandchildren, Gregory Miles of Fairfax, VA, Andrew (Kristina) Reeve of Copenhagen, Denmark and Lee Reeve of San Diego, CA; and one sister-in-law, Thelma Hessler of West Chicago, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Evelyn Hessler, three brothers, Orville, George and Robert Hessler and two nephews, Robert Hessler and Mark Hessler.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brandermill Woods Health Care Center for all the wonderful care they provided Helen during her stay.
