Irene García, age 89, a life-long resident of Tijeras, NM, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014.
Irene is survived by her husband of 68 years, Pablo García, three sons and one daughter, Rey García and his wife, Viola of Tijeras, Betty García and her husband, Felix of Tijeras, Paul García and his wife, Anne of Albuquerque and Greg García of Albuquerque, nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. Irene was very loved by her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, and her best friend, Betty Martínez.
Irene was born to the late Raymundo and Lugarita García and was preceded in death by her brother, Benny García and her grandson, Luís García.
Irene was retired from Albuquerque Public Schools where she worked at A. Montoya and Roosevelt schools in Tijeras. Irene was very faithful to her church, attending Rosary and Mass all of her life and after she retired, every day for 19 years, making trips twice a year to the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden, CO and once a year to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lubbock, TX. Irene lived a long loved-filled life.
Irene was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Rosary will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Child Catholic Church, 19 Camino del Santo Niño, Tijeras, NM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Child Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Santo Niño Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin García, Jeff García, Rey García Jr., Phillip García, Nathan García and Frankie García. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin García Jr., Isaac Rodríguez, Nep Rodríguez Jr., Cole García, Cayden García, Cenneth García and Conner García.
