She claimed to have grown up in Pittsburgh, with an aunt and uncle; relatives or perhaps family friends, their surname may have been "Miehle," a name that she adopted. No birth records have been found, nor any aunt or uncle with the surname. "Miehle." Jewel moved to Chicago sometime in the early to mid-1910s where she lived the remainder of her life. She was married twice, and had 4 children: William Harold Olson; Joyce Bessie Olson; Ronald Ralph Donner; and Ralph Samuel Emmanuel "Ral" Donner.
Early in life she cleaned private homes; after marrying "Ralph" Donner, she became a homemaker.
