Robert Bender, 94 of Fond du Lac and a resident of the St. Francis Home for the past 13 months died Monday, October 1, 2012, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born in Wesley, Iowa, on August 10, 1918, the son of Alexander and Anna Ramig Bender. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy as a machinist mate 1st Class, and member of the Sea Bee's, serving in World War II from October 1943 to November 1945 and was stationed in Hawaii and helped clean up after Pearl Harbor. Bob was a laborer in various commercial construction projects. He was an avid fisherman, loved gardening and his dogs, Molly, Ashley, and Babe. SURVIVORS: Robert married Helen Kraft and had four children, Robert A. (Dolores) Bender, South Beloit, IL, Judy (Daniel) Flanders, Fond du Lac, Richard (Sandra) Bender, Knoxville, TN, and James A. Bender, Bradenton, FL; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three siblings, Ella Gosse, Milwaukee, Samuel (Sharon) Bender, Taycheedah, and Dorothy Peterson, Waupun; sister-in-law, Loraine Bender, Fond du Lac; brother-in-law, Al Stahla, Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Joseph Flanders; three sisters, Marie Stahla, Ruth Moore, and Betty Bender; five brothers, Herman, Fritz, Bud (Ruth), Al (Sandy), and Benjamin; two brothers-in-law, Frank Peterson and Roland Gosse. Graveside inurnment services will be held Monday, October 8, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Estabrooks Cemetery. Chaplain Douglas V. Hedman will officiate. Trier Puddy American Legion Post 75 will conduct military graveside services. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church - Building Fund. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
