Barney J. Runnels Found Dead Wednesday A. M.

Barney J. Runnels, 53-year-old resident of Magee, was found dead early Wednesday morning on the front porch of a neighbor's house. His lifeless form was discovered, face-down on the front porch near the front door around 6 a. m., by Mrs. Lavelle Williamson, a niece. A medical examination revealed that he had been dead several hours.

A coroners' jury, empaneled by Coroner H. O. Upton of Mendenhall, ruled "cause of death unknown." Mr. Runnels had been the victim of ill health for several years, having suffered from a heart condition. Up until four months ago, he had resided at the residence where he died. Since that time he had lived in the next block. He was a lifelong resident of Simpson County and a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p. m., from the Sharon Presbyterian officiating, assisted by Rev. Church, with Rev. Charles King Clark and Rev. W. H. Parker. Interment will follow in the Sharon cemetery under the direction of Mendenhall Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emerene Runnels, Magee; five sons, James L. Junior; A. J.; Billy Joe and L. D. Runnels, all of Magee; four daughters, Mrs. Vernell Bush, Hastings, Nebraska; Mrs. Ermaden Walker, Mt. Olive; Mrs. Helen Lucky, Magee; Miss Jeanette Runnels, Magee; three sisters, Mrs. May Bishop, and Mrs. Loree Amason of Magee and Mrs. Claudia Bishop of Laurel.
