Iva G. Bayes, 99, Bryan, died Tuesday afternoon, March 13, 2007, in Harborside Healthcare Center, Bryan, following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 2, 1907, in Defiance County, the daughter of Samuel and Blanche (Ridenour) Sleesman. In 1926, she married Hollis Bayes, who died in 1965. She attended Milford Township School and was a farmer and an interior decorator for many years. She also worked at the former Holabird Co., Bryan, until it closed and was a member of Bryan's Eagle Aerie 2233 Auxiliary and VFW Post Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Darwin (Sheila), Coldwater, Mich.; a daughter, Geneva "Chop" (Joe) Youse, Montpelier; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Bayes, Bryan; a sister, Genevieve Suffell, Edgerton; a sister-in-law, Roena Bayes, Fairfield, Pa.; and five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Darrell; and eight brothers and five sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in WilsonGeesey Funeral Home, Montpelier, with Rev. Robert Damschroder officiating. Burial will be in Farmer Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to Harborside Healthcare Center's activity fund.
