Reverend Troy Lee Slay was born on October 2, 1928 in Lincoln County, Mississippi, and he and his twin brother Roy Lee Slay were sons of Judson Jefferson Slay (1878-1963) and Hilda (Bates) Slay (1909-1953).

Married about 1948 to Marie Allen (2 Apr 1930– ), he served in the US Navy on the Battleship Missouri; was a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University; earned a Masters Degree from George Peabody College and served as the Dean of Emmanuel Bible College.

He was a kind man with a gentle heart, and those who knew him loved and admired him: Troy retired after 43 years as a church pastor.

Living in Nashville, Tennessee, he was 86 years old when he passed away at Alive Hospice on December 28, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Survivors included his widow, two daughters (one married and the other engaged), two grandsons and several special friends.

Celebration of Life Services were held at West Harpeth Funeral Home, and burial was in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
