James Ray (Red) Martin was born on December 17, 1930 in Myra, Texas. Red was one of eleven children born to William Burl Martin and Zena Pearl (Warner) Martin. Red married the love of his life, Betty Lue Dunn on January 7, 1950 in Montague, Texas.
Red was a member of the Church of Christ. Red was a loving husband of 62 years. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his family as well as visiting and playing with his grand and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing, gardening, canning, and wood-working. He also loved for his daughters to sing hymns to him. He was a past member of the Alvord In-N-Out coffee drinkers club.
Red is survived by his daughters and spouses Linda and Jr. Thweatt, Penny and Jimmy Johnson, all of Alvord, Texas, Staci and Dale Romine of Montague, Texas; son Tom and wife, Linda Martin of Gainesville; grandchildren and spouses Lance Thweatt, DJ and Bri Thweatt, Jamie and Caitlin Johnson, Andy Johnson, Gregg and Jesse Romine, Ethan and Brittany Romine, Cody and Adrianne Martin, Casey and Heather Martin, Cyle and Sharissa Martin, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; sister Ruth Cain of Decatur, Texas and brother Bill Martin of Gainesville, Texas; sister-in-law Dee and C.E. (Sonny) Cole and brother-in-law, Melvin (Snooks) Dunn.
Red was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Martin, his parents, William and Zena Martin; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters: Jo Hardison, Thelma Ritchie, Lois McVeigh, Johnnie Fern Martin and Clemmie Mae Martin; brothers: Charley Martin, Clinton Martin, and Roy William Martin.
