Funeral services for Lawrence “Larry” D. Cortez, 58, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00PM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Mr. Cortez died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Larry was born June 17, 1956, in Moline, IL, the son of Bernard and Lupe Vasquez Cortez. He was a graduate of United Township High School class of 1974. He retired in 2009 from John Deere Harvester, East Moline after nearly 30 years of service. He loved all sports, especially playing softball. He enjoyed horse racing. He loved traveling and music, especially listening to his uncles' and cousins' band, the Cortez Brothers. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Cortez, of East Moline daughters, Cristy (John) Hanson, East Moline, Corrina Allender, East Moline, Jessie Knoles, Belle Plaine, IA, and Julie (Curtis) Whitten, East Moline; grandchildren, Aleah Knoles, Hayley and Desiree Whitten, and Lillian Holmes; sister, Diane (Dale) Duckworth, Davenport, IA; brothers, Dave (Carolyn) Cortez, East Moline, Marcus (Laura) Cortez, Rock Island, IL, and Mario Cortez, Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Irma (Beto) Martinez, East Moline; brothers-in-law, Bob (Wendy) Escontrias, Hampton, IL, Juan (Gina) Escontrias, Eddie (Margie) Escontrias, Hampton, and Carlos Escontrias, East Moline; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
