"June O'Dea Gomez, a star of Broadway musicals in the 1930s, and the widow of Vernon "Lefty" Gomez, died Saturday of complications from old age at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae. She would have been 80 next week.
Mrs. Gomez, who was born in Revere, MA, began her show business career singing and dancing at the age of 4 with her sister Sunny. They were widely known on the vaudeville circuit under their stage name, the Garst Sisters. Mrs. Gomez would dance and act on Broadway under the name "June O'Dea".
After retiring from baseball in 1943, Mr. Gomez, a native of Rodeo, remained in the New York City area, working for the Wilson sporting goods company. In 1969, Mrs. Gomez accompanied him back to the Bay Area, eventually settling in Novato. He died in 1989 at the age of 81..."
