Mrs. Wells was born May 19, 1919, in Artrip, Va. She formerly resided in Milan, Mo; and St. Joseph, where she graduated from Benton High School. She lived most of her life in the Avenue City area.
She was married to Herschel L. Wells. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1986.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Marion Balford and Edna Pearl (Caldwell) Artrip; sister; and two grandsons.
She was a homemaker and volunteered for Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Survivors: three daughters, Sharon K. Allen, and husband, Jim of Kansas City, Mo.; Phyllis J. Carpenter, and husband, Bill; and Cheryl A. Pease, all of St. Joseph; three sons, Gerald "Sonny" Thompson, and wife, Jane; and Stephen I. Wells, and wife, Kaye, all of St. Joseph; and Craig . Wells of Avenue City; two sisters, Freda Duffield and Margaret "Boo" Freeman, both of St. Joseph; 11 grandchildren;; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Oct. 13, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph, MO.
Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.
