Hilda Faye Raley Barnes, age 78, passed away on Thursday December 25, 2014 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro. The Mitchell, GA native was a graduate of Glasscock County High School in Gibson, GA. She attended Berry College in Rome, GA, where she met James Nelson Barnes, her husband of 55 years. Hilda served as the pianist and organist of various churches in which her husband served including Bonnybridge Baptist Church, Pt. Wentworth, MacDonald Baptist Church, Sylvania, Middle Ground Baptist Church, Sylvania and Friendship Baptist Church in Statesboro, for nearly 20 years. She was employed by First Baptist Church of Graceville, FL; Ogeechee Home Health Agency in Statesboro, University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service in Statesboro and Georgia Southern University Division of Continuing Education from where she retired in 2003. Hilda was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church where she had been active in various programs.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Nelson Barnes; her parents, Ruth Smith Raley and George Marion Raley and a grandson, David Nelson Barnes, Jr.
