ROWE, SHEDRICK P.
Shedrick P. Rowe, who has been identified with the general business interests of Wharton County throughout his active career, was born in Brazoria County, Texas, October 10, 1871. His education was acquired in the public schools of that county and in the Houston Business College. His first undertaking was a mercantile enterprise near Wharton, and after selling this to an uncle he conducted a store for Adam & Rives at Krigel, in Wharton County, for two years. For the following two years he was in Wharton, and then took charge of G. A. Harrison & Company store and cattle interests, near Wharton, for five years. In 1900 he engaged in the livery business at Wharton, selling out to enter the grocery business, and since selling that has been engaged in the meat market business. He owns a farm of 535 acres in Wharton County, and besides his business in town he engages successfully in farming and in the breeding and raising of horses. Mr. Rowe is a Democrat in politics, and a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Mr. Rowe's parents were Benjamin F. and Sallie (McNeal) Rowe, the former a native of Mississippi and the latter of Texas. The father located in Brazoria County, Texas, at an early day, and was a prosperous farmer and stockman, widely known in that section of the state. He died in 1888. His wife died in 1880.
In 1901 Mr. Rowe married Miss Mary Rugely Davis, a daughter of William Davis, of Matagorda County. They have two children: S. P. Jr. and Mary Davis Rowe.
