Elva Lakes, age 91, of Richmond, died Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Reid Hospital. Born May 30, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, to Willie and Elizabeth Carpenter Smith, she lived most of her life in this area. Elva retired from Belden after 20 years of service. She loved to sew and work puzzles. Elva was always busy. She enjoyed church, reading her Bible, and re-writing poems. Elva loved her little buddy, Chili Baby. Survivors include her daughter, Delcie Marie (Jack) Cauble of Centerville; sisters, Almeda Smith of Centerville, Argie Johnson of Kettering, Ohio, and Dorotha Markey of Richmond; brother, Barry (Karen) Smith of Zionsville, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Shirley Smith of Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lakes who died May 9, 1991; three sisters, Freeda Lakes, Fern Lake, and Dereda Bird; and two brothers, Shelby Smith and Gary Smith. Visitation for Elva Lakes will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at Trinity Pentecostal Church, 2395 Straightline Pike, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at Trinity Pentecostal Church with Pastor Johnny L. Shepherd Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
