Charles Y Byrne, clerk of the Circuit Court of Braxton County WV, died at 6pm, July 16, at his residence in Sutton.

He had served in the capacity of clerk since 1885, and was one of the most efficient officials in the state. He founded the Braxton Democrat and was, until his death, one of its editors.

His numerous friends all over the state will regret to learn of his death, and especially will the people of Braxton county, as he was one of the most popular and highly esteemed of its people. The funeral will be conducted by the Masonic order, of which he was an earnest and devoted member.

CHARLES Y. BYRNE —born in Braxton county, August 16, 1857, was a son of John P. and Jane Byme. His father was born in this county, then part of Nicholas, in 1817, and was the first deputy sheriff receiving appointment after the county of Braxton was organized. He afterwards held the office of sheriff, was eighteen years clerk of the county court, entering upon the duties of that office in 1842, and ably discharging the same until his death which occurred February 2, 1860.

November 27, 1881, Charles Y. Byrne and Mary M. Squires were united in marriage and they have one little daughter, Leonora, born December 17, 1882. Norman B. and Ruhama Squires are the parents of Mrs. Byme. Her father died April 28, 1881, and her mother is still a resident of Braxton county. Mrs. C. Y. Byme was born in this county, July 27, 1857.

Mr. Byrne served as deputy sheriff two years. He is now editing and publishing the Braxton Democrat.
