Betty Jane Grimm, 88, of Union City, CA, died October 9, 2013. Betty was born on December 27, 1924 in Marysville, WA. Betty passed away with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Betty was preceded in death by John, her husband of 61 years, and survived by daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Barry Gil of San Jose, CA; son and daughter in-law, Gary and Julie Grimm of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Marty and Angela Gil of Alameda, CA; and Christina and Armando Olivarez of Tarrytown, NY; as well as by two great-grandchildren, Oskar and Matteo Gil. She is also survived by her brother, Willis A. Anderson of Everett, WA; and many nieces and nephews. When her children were grown, she spent many years as a Department Manager for Montgomery Ward. Betty and John were active members of the Martinez Swingers Square Dance Club. She was very involved in her genealogy and spent countless hours working on the family tree. After the passing of John in July of 2006, Betty moved from Martinez, CA to the Acacia Creek Retirement Community at the Masonic Home in Union City, CA. Until her death, Betty was a member of Eastern Star and a holder of the Grand Cross of Color, as well as being a Rainbow Girl in her youth. Her outgoing spirit, enjoyment of cooking and care for others were hallmarks of her legacy. She shared her passion for gardening with many and had achieved the status of Master Gardener. She spent many hours sharing her expertise and joy of gardening with the community at Acacia Creek, considering it her hobby and a form of relaxation. Throughout her life, she was always an active member in the United Methodist Church. A date is pending for a Celebration of Life/Dedication Ceremony in the near future.
