Evelyn Virginia Belseth was born on August 31, 1920, to Casper and Olive (Ricker) Belseth in Wetonka, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Wetonka and attended country school. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1938. After graduating, Evelyn worked at First National Bank in Aberdeen. She later worked at the Aberdeen City Treasurer’s Office. 

Evelyn was united in marriage to Philip “Pat” O’Brien on July 22, 1942 in Aberdeen. They lived in various places over the years when Pat was in the military, serving in both WWII and the Korean War, but they always returned to Aberdeen. 

Evelyn was active in several Bridge Clubs and enjoyed spending time playing cards with her friends. She had a passion for golf and played when she was younger. She also enjoyed watching it on television. When her son, Mike,was in sports, Evelyn would follow his football and basketball games. This love for sports continued after he was grown and she continued to faithfully follow NSU basketball and football games. Family was very important to Evelyn. She truly loved her son and his family. 

Grateful for having shared Evelyn’s life are her son, Philip “Mike” (Kathy) O’Brien; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister: Ella Mae Vining; two nieces: Sherry and Virginia; nephew: Richard and her sister-in-law: Geraldine Schley. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Pat, and her parents, Casper and Olive.
