Born on the date and place stated above to Ira W. & Emma Jensen Packer. Graduated from Box Elder High School in 1935 and from Weber State College in 1938, where he had served as Student Body Treasurer. Married Lou Jean Scoffield in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 24, 1945.Prior to his marriage he served as a bomber pilot in WWII. From August 1941 to November 1944 he flew a B-17 with the 8th Air Force in Europe and rose to the rank of Colonel. According to Maj. General Wesley Peterson, a well-known WWII flier from Ogden, Utah: "He was a group leader, a highly decorated war hero... he flew 25 or more missions. They were in England and flew missions into Germany." After the war, General Packer served on the Air Staff at the Pentagon until July 1947. He continued his Air Force service and was promoted to Brigadier General in May 1967. He was President and General Manager of Packer Motor Co. which he operated with his brothers for 30 years. He was a High Priest in the Brigham City 9th ward. He and his wife served a mission as directors of the Mesa, Arizona Temple Visitors Center from January 1981 until July 1982. Survived by his wife, 2 daughters, 2 sons, 20 grandchildren, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Preceded in death by parents, 3 sisters and one brother.In lieu of flowers the family suggested contributions to the Primary Children's Medical Center.
