Former Alaska resident A.T. "Jack" Cooper died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005. He was 82.

As per Mr. Cooper's request, there will be no services.

Mr. Cooper was born July 21, 1922, in Taft, Calif. He graduated from Taft High School.

He started his working career with Richfield Oil Co., in Taft. He and his family spent 20 years in Alaska, where he worked for Coastal Drilling and Parker Drilling Co. After returning to California, Mr. Cooper worked for Berry Holding Co. before retiring.

He and his wife, Edith, spent 18 years of retirement in Brookings, Ore., then returned to Bakersfield, Calif.

Mr. Cooper was a 50-year member of the Taft Masonic Lodge, and he recently received the Golden Veterans Award from the California Grand Masonic Lodge.

He served in the Army in World War II.

"He spent his life being a loving husband for 62 years to his wife, Edith, as well as a devoted father and grandfather," his family said.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Stewart Cooper; son, Wesley Ross Cooper; and daughter, Gloria Jean Marston.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, A.T. "Chris" Cooper and Dianne, with whom he lived in Stallion Springs, Calif.; grandchildren, Connie and husband, Rick Cormier, of Slidell, La., Tim and wife, Michele Cooper, of Bakersfield, Keely Cooper and fiance, Loren Williams, of Arlington, Texas, Marcy and husband, Greig Chapman, of Beamsville, Ontario, Canada, Tammy Marston of Harbor, Ore., Lloyd and wife, Patsy Marston, of Kenai and Teena and husband, David Steele, of Union, Ore.; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn and husband, Art Radar, of Grants Pass, Ore., and Jeanne Cooper of Los Angeles; and sister-in-law Betty O'Brien of Taft.

Arrangements were made by Wood Family Funeral Services in Tehachapi, Calif.
