Violett Ann Martin passed away this evening, December 20, 2014 at her home following a brief return of cancer, which she had bravely battled off and on for the past few years. She was born to James Douglas Martin and Martha Joy Webb, who predeceased her along with her husband, Guy LeRoy Smith. Violett grew up in Weakley County; she and Delo shared their life together in Richmond, Virginia with their four children. Shortly after Delo's death, she moved back to Weakley County to be near local family members.

Survivors include Violett's younger siblings, Tommy (Ann) Martin of Paris, Tennessee and Donna (Gene) Lewter of Chester, Virginia.

Violett's death came all too soon for many who will miss her. Donna had the following to say about her sister on her Facebook page: "My sweet beautiful sister Violett Ann Martin Smith left to go home for her eternal life. She began her journey at 10:03 this evening. Go beautiful swan you are free now."

Violett used the spelling of "tt"'s when writing her name.
